Increase of meeting attendance often improves after a local Kingdom Hall is built. I'm sure that it they were to build them in the high traffic areas of the big cities, that more people would come there too, except that the high traffic is coming there already because of the worldly enticements put there. It's an on-going challenge, since Jehovah wishes that none should perish, but have everlasting life. How will those caught up in worldly life-styles switch course? It's a tough sell.

What do you think is behind the watchtower change in 2008 ?
by 5go ini think it's an atempt to catch faders or atleast make active dubs feel special.
it also could be a cost cutting measure to though.
getting rid of the km's and even up awakes and watchtowers would save some trees.

i think she believes me because i have never told her anything regarding the jw's that wasn't true.
she really didn't have anything to say about it, and i didn't question her.

That's why they're building KHs, around the world, wherever the interest is growing and the local government allows it.

Articles "a" "an" "the"
by Inquisitor incan anyone tell me whether the usage of such articles can be found in the original hebrew or greek writing of the scriptures?.
in this week's book study, the society attempts to distinguish jesus "the first and the last" (rev 1:18) from jehovah "i am the first and i am the last" (isaiah 44:6).
the basis for such a distinction, according to the society is that isaiah quote lacks definite articles before the words "first" and "last".

JWs will have to teach the original Hebrew and Greek in MTS and then in another meeting, like the Watchtower Study meeting, if they expect people to really get the sense of what they're reading. Learning the original Hebrew is what the Jews do, and Muslims learn Classical Arabic, so why not?

That's why Jehovah's Witnesses have such an important job. That's what this board is all about. Meanwhile, out there, each version of anything (Muslim, Christian, you name it) arrogantly proclaims that they're the true brand. It seems to me they all need to look to the True God and stay looking to Him. Simple is as simple does. Truth is like gravity. If we think we can just do want we want, and make it up as we go along, we're the one paying the price.

That would be great for the board to discuss the book of Luke and the Draw Close book. I'm all for it. Why not start a new Subject for them. I for one would really enjoy that. It would be a nice change.

I've always had a policy of contributing upfront for whatever I get from the mag/lit counters, applying the principle of freely you have received, freely give. I put in a full 10% of my income each month, so that should help those in less-fortunate countries. The balance sheet is read each month at the KH and there's always a lot kept back for updates for the local KH and whatnot, every few months it seems. There's always a note from the Society thankful for whatever donations come in. The KHs are being built in areas of need, though if there were more money coming in and/or less money being put out for needless remodelling, there would be enough KHs everywhere in the world already. If everyone puts in what they can money-wise by keeping up the self-sacrificing spirit and not paying out for unnecessary worldly pursuits, there wouldn't be a problem to talk about.

Speaking from my own personal experience, I feel that the only way to think it's fair to say that most everyone has hundreds of magazines stacking up is if one were to count their personal copies from over the years. I (like various others I've known) like to have both bound volumes and personal copies in my library. The bound volumes are kept clean, for photocopying from or for letting others use; the personal ones are marked from cover to cover in 4-color pen — both underlining in the paragraphs, and marginal notes; both from personal study and from congregational study. I still do it that way, even though I've been df'd for 14 months now. I'm still regular as clockwork, and am always one of the first to go to the mag counter.
There certainly have been lots of announcements, especially in the years past, for people to regularly adjust their orders at the magazine counter. And if the placement mags were starting to stack a little, there might be suggestions at the service groups, etc. to encourage street witnessing, which was always a great way to find a way to place, especially if a person had a mag route and lots of RVs and Bible Studies, which I knew how to do years ago.
Along that line, I remember 10 years ago, when I was still allowed to publish, that several in the downtown congregation I was in had standing orders of 20-25 of both Watchtower and Awake!, and we were constantly running empty and having to ask one another, or get the brothers to make an announcement to bring mags in from home. Sometimes there'd be none that anyone could find, and we'd be asking for more from other congregations around. But then we had a fairly large shift-work/immigrant population, with a large number of foreign language mags. Many of them were trying to learn English, so they'd take both their native language (if it was available) and in English, and compare wording. Those certainly were the days! By now things are much tamer, not the rivalry there once was. Galatians 6:4 is a staple now, in that department. Every once in a while, though, a person will hear an (assembly) experience of someone placing 75 books at work, or some such, but it has to be pretty extraordinary like that for the numbers to come out, generally.
